How an IQP Inspection Works

An Independently Qualified Person (IQP) is a specialist who inspects and reports on a building’s specified systems. The Building Act 2004 requires every IQP to hold the right qualifications and registration for each system type they inspect.
Specified System 4 (SS4) covers a building’s emergency warning systems, which alert occupants and support a safe evacuation. If your Compliance Schedule lists SS4, a registered IQP must inspect it at the frequency the schedule states.
Form 12A is the certificate an IQP signs after each inspection. It confirms the specified system meets its Compliance Schedule and performs as intended for that period, and every building compliance file must include this record.
