Enjoy the shower you like, and save power

We don’t usually pay much attention to our hot water cylinders until they decide to take a day off. But did you know that your hot water cylinder is also your ticket to save on power? In fact, it guzzles up roughly 27% of your power bill, and it’s become a critical component in our daily lives. So, why not make sure it’s doing its job efficiently?

The ideal temperature for your hot water cylinder temperature is a toasty 60˚C, so that it’s around 55˚C when it comes out of the tap. Any cooler and you’d be inviting unwanted bacteria, but too hot and you’re risking burns – so finding that sweet spot is key.

When you take off on a vacation or just for the day, turning off your hot water cylinder to save some power is a smart move. Some even swear by the daily ritual of flipping the switch in the morning and back on at night as their secret to efficiency. However, there is a catch – if your cylinder is on the larger side, the energy required to heat it up from scratch each time might cost you more than letting it continuously stay hot. When we come to visit, this is something we can assess for you.

Hot water cylinder automation contributes to an eco-conscious future. Imagine having timers and auto-switching systems that let you customise your hot water supply to your lifestyle – all in the name of efficiency.

Another common challenge is heating loss. Hot water cylinders are often exposed to the elements, leading to unnecessary energy wastage. The solution is insulation – we can insulate your cylinder, creating a protective shield against external temperature fluctuations. By doing so, you not only conserve energy but your hot water system will last longer. It’s a win-win.

Hot water cylinders can face issues like malfunctioning thermostats, worn-out heating elements, and sediment can buildup. But when we visit, we can diagnose and remedy these problems swiftly, ensuring that your system operates at peak performance.

If you have heated towel rails, consider installing a timer to turn the towel rail on for two hours per day. Reduce the consumption rate rather than having it run continuously, but still have cozy towels after your shower or bath.

Then, there are solutions that go beyond traditional hot water systems – energy-efficient alternatives like heat pumps or solar water heaters. They can reduce your energy bills and your carbon footprint.

What your shower pressure says about you

When it’s not just about getting clean, a shower can be a simple ritual of pure, unadulterated bliss. Shower pressure can make or break your day, and when you think of the perfect shower, there’s one of three types everyone falls into.

High-pressure Go-getter: the power showers. They pack a punch with a strong, invigorating stream of water. It’s a massage-like experience, starting the day with a burst of energy, invigorating your spirit. You tackle your day with enthusiasm and gusto and appreciate the powerful rush a strong shower resonates with your vibrant approach to life. You thrive on challenges and have a “can-do” attitude.

Low-pressure Refresher: gentle rainfall-style showers for those who like liquid meditation, a cascade of zen washing away stress and worries. You have a calm and laid-back personality. Tranquillity is your haven, and you revel in life’s simple pleasures. You don’t sweat the small stuff and believe in going with the flow.

Balanced-pressure Pleasure: the Goldilocks of shower pressure. If you’re a fan of balanced pressure showers, it suggests that you value equilibrium and seek harmony in all aspects of life. You’re practical and adaptable, capable of finding the middle ground in various situations. Your choice mirrors your balanced approach to the world.

The ideal shower pressure depends on a person’s mood. Sometimes, you want a quick, invigorating blast in the morning to kick-start the day, and sometimes, you want a slow, comforting wind-down in the evening. It’s all about what makes you feel good, refreshed, and ready to tackle whatever the day throws at you.
